Break ups are one of the toughest things to go through, especially if you’re still hung up on your former beau. Whether you’re the dumper or the dumped, it’s never easy to sever the ties. You have that feeling in the pit of your stomach like you’ve just swallowed a brick, all you want to do is cry, and maybe even eat a tub of ice cream (don’t do it!).
I can’t give you an instant remedy to alleviate the pain, but what I can say is that you will move on, whether you like it or not. That’s the beauty of the human heart: we fall hard, but we also forget fast. The mistake most of us make after a break up is not allowing ourselves to get over it. Here are a few things that will help you rebuild yourself and move on.
It may sound cruel, but it’s the only way. You need to completely cut him out of your life and that means remove his number from your phone (no memorizing allowed!), unfriend him on facebook, delete him from your gmail contacts, and don’t ask your friends to spy on him for you.
Change your Routine
We are creatures of habit and most relationships become just that: habitual. Explore new restaurants, watch new shows, visit to places you’ve never been with him so that you’re not constantly walking down memory lane.
Age old trick my friends. The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. Now don’t do every guy around the block, but explore your options and have some fun. That’s the beauty of being single right?
Your past relationship didn’t work out, and there’s a reason for that. Figure it out. Maybe he was too selfish and didn’t put enough time into the relationship. Maybe he had crazy in-laws. Maybe he was a cheating bastard. Whatever the reason, check that off your list, so that next time you date someone you’ll know which qualities to look for and watch out for.
Do all the things that you couldn’t do before because you had to take someone else into consideration. Get on a plane and visit a former lover. Stay out till 4 AM without feeling guilty. Spend your money on whatever you want. No one will be there to tell you otherwise.
